Jamie Redknapp urges Poch to start midfielder against Man City

Tottenham go into the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City tomorrow night a goal to the good.

Despite being ahead in the tie, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that City are favourites to progress to the semi-finals.

Tottenham will have to make do without their star striker Harry Kane after the England captain injured his ankle in the first leg.

Dele might also not be available after picking up a fractured left hand in the same game.

In the pair’s absence, Pochettino started Fernando Llorente and Lucas Moura upfront against Huddersfield on Saturday, and both players put in terrific performances with Moura grabbing a hat-trick.

While the pair have certainly staked their claim for a starting spot against City, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has urged Pochettino to start another player who starred for Spurs on Saturday – midfielder Victor Wanyama.

The Kenyan has missed most of the season with injury troubles but performed well on his return to the side against Huddersfield, even scoring a well-taken goal.

Redknapp said that Wanyama will help Spurs break up play and put fires out in midfield.

According to HITC, Redknapp told Sky Sports, “What you want him to do is to put fires out all around the pitch if he can, and he has got real power.

“He is fresh, he hasn’t played a lot of football. I am sure it’s something he’s (Pochettino) looking at at the moment.”

Given that Harry Winks is expected to be fit for the game, one would think Pochettino is likely to go with the tried and trusted partnership of Winks and Sissoko in midfield.

However, Wanyama could certainly have a part to play from the bench particularly if the Lillywhites wish to hold on to a lead late in the game.
