Tottenham Hotspur put in a brilliant performance to beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 at Wembley Stadium in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie.
The game which many experts deemed “too close to call” ahead of kick-off didn’t get to the liveliest of starts with both teams attempting to suss each other out in the first 20 minutes. The first half was pretty cagey on the whole with the away side arguably having the better chances.
Tottenham, however, decided to up their tempo in the second half and Dortmund had no answers as Son Heung-Min opened the scoring soon after the interval.
Tottenham continued to create the better chances and eventually added two more goals through Jan Vertonghen and substitute Fernando Llorente.
This was a great result indeed for a Spurs side which was missing the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose, and Ben Davies.
The result means that Spurs will travel to the Westfalenstadion early next month with a comfortable cushion, and Dortmund really have their work cut out for them if they are to progress to the quarter final stage.
Spurs fans were predictably jubilant after the result. Here’s how some fans reacted on social media:
Up the spurs! Fabulous second half performance. Yids!

The “Harry Kane Team” just smoked the German League Leaders at a neutral venue without our top goalscorer and Dele.
Have some of that, @BVB.

Jan Vertonghen has wasted his career at centreback, to be honest.
