Tottenham Hotspur secured a third straight win in the Premier League today, beating Newcastle by one goal to nil through a late Son strike.
This moves Spurs up to second in the League, and what a way to celebrate Jan Vertonghen’s 200th Premier League game for the Lilywhites.
It may not be the most memorable occasion for the Belgian, as he played the majority of the match at left-back, and Spurs only just scraped a win, but a grand achievement none-the-less.
Since joining Spurs in 2012, Jan has been an ever-present in that back line and has become one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Premier League and beyond.
Tottenham recently extended his contract by an extra year, now ending in the summer of 2020, and it would seem strange if the club did not offer him a new one come the end of this period.
Vertonghen became the 12th Spurs player to reach 200 Prem games, but who else is on the list?
Darren Anderton
Jermain Defoe
Ledley King
Aaron Lennon
Ian Walker
Robbie Keane
Teddy Sheringham
Michael Dawson
Hugo Lloris
Stephen Carr
That’s only 11… is it? Can’t think who the other one was actually. Probably not worth mentioning, *cough* Judas *cough*
