Jan Vertonghen mocks himself after being asked about his celebration

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen does not often get his name on the scoresheet in the Lilywhite colours, but he managed to score a late winner last weekend.

Spurs had been largely outperformed by Wolves in the Premier League, but Vertonghen made the most of a great corner delivery from Eriksen in the 91st minute to nod home from the penalty spot.

Vertonghen has just two league goals in the last seven seasons for Tottenham, and only four goals in total during that time (Wikipedia).

This may seem strange to anyone who watched the centre-back when he first joined Spurs back in 2012, as he managed six goals in that season alone, with four coming in the league.

Such rare goalscoring these days means that fans are rarely treated to the classic Super Jan celebration, in which Vertonghen pretends to tear off his shirt like his Superhero namesake.

When asked by a young academy player whether he practices the celebration, he replied that perhaps he should start practising scoring more.

The fan asked: ‘What about your celebration, do you practice that in training?’

Vertonghen laughed and replied: ‘Maybe I should practice scoring goals more because I’ve not been scoring a lot lately.’
