Jan Vertonghen tweets after extending his Tottenham contract

Tottenham Hotspur have had plenty of good news on the pitch this week, following up key wins against Southampton and Burnley with a NLD victory at the Emirates.

Spurs won the derby match 2-0, dumping their bitter rivals out of the Carabao Cup for another season.

However, there was good news off the pitch too, as Spurs resolved one of their player contract issues.

The club announced a one year extension of Jan Vertonghen’s current deal (Football London), an option that was always available to them, and always a likely occurrence.

Tottenham Hotspur still have two other Belgian’s running low on their contract in Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele, as well as Christian Eriksen who enters his final 18 months.

However, for today at least, this extension gives Tottenham a solid defensive base to build around for next season, whether Toby stays or not.

Let’s hope that Poch can keep the Belgian duo together for the foreseeable future though.
