Jan Vertonghen tweets after nasty concussion against Ajax

Tottenham’s first ever Champions League semi-final night certainly didn’t end as the Spurs players would have wanted, but none more so than Jan Vertonghen.

Vertonghen was a big part of Spurs’ success over the two legs against Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16, as he scored one and assisted one in the first game and kept a clean sheet in the return leg.

Coming up against his former club, Ajax, Vertonghen would have been dreaming of similar performances over the next week, but it wasn’t to be for the Belgian.

Not only did he conceded a goal within 15 minutes of the match, he then suffered a nasty head collision with teammate Toby Alderweireld.

While Toby was able to play on, Vertonghen was eventually forced off, visibly dizzy and concussed by the blow to the head.

Tottenham have announced that the player has been checked over today, and will continue to be assessed through the week.

Vertonghen took the opportunity to tweet a thank you message to both sets of fans.
