Japhet Tanganga opens up on what it has been like to work with Jose Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate, Japhet Tanganga has today opened up on what it has been like to work under Jose Mourinho for the past 12 months.

Tanganga revealed that it had been an amazing experience to work with the Special One, highlighting his attention to the game and tactical awareness.

The central defender was immediately highlighted by Mourinho when the head coach first joined Spurs, after Tanganga performed well when marking Ronaldo in a pre-season friendly.

However, Jose recently claimed that he now sees Tanganga as more of a full-back option than a central defender (Football London). The youngster was used as a utility player at right-back, left-back, and centre-back last season.

So far this season, Tanganga has only appeared three times, once in the League Cup and twice since returning from injury in the Europa League (TransferMarkt).

It appears that the defensive experience of Mourinho has certainly rubbed off on the 21-year-old Englishman over the past 12 months.

Tanganga said (Football London): “It’s amazing. I’ve learned so much from the attention he pays to the game, not only my game and what I can improve on, but tactics and game awareness. The amount of help he’s given not only me but all of us. It’s amazing and I just wish to keep working with him because it’s been amazing.”
