‘Jealous’ – Arsenal legend gives honest response to Spurs appointing Conte

Ian Wright has admitted that he is jealous of Tottenham after the club appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager.

Tottenham announced the Italian would be the replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo, who was relieved of his duties after last weekend’s devastating 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.

The former Chelsea boss oversaw his first game in charge of Spurs on Thursday in what was an entertaining 3-2 win against Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League. He followed this up with a 0-0 draw away to Everton in the Premier League.

Much has been made of Spurs’ appointment of Conte given how coveted a coach he is, with striker Harry Kane praising the club’s ambition in managing to court him.

Former Arsenal forward Wright echoed those thoughts, but admitted that he is feeling a little envious of Spurs for getting such a massive acquisition over the line.

However, he did give total backing to Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who has managed to turn his and the club’s fortunes around in recent weeks.

When Wright was asked for his verdict on Spurs hiring Conte, he simple replied (The Kelly & Wrighty Show): “Jealous.

“Not saying that our manager isn’t doing his stuff, but jealous and pleased for them really. He is a top-drawer manager.”

This is a new era for Spurs which the club must take advantage of. It isn’t every day where you get one of the best managers in the world currently manning the dugout, so hopefully, he can get his methods down and ingrained into the players.
