Jeff Stelling predicts who will win the race for top four – Spurs vs Aston Villa

Jeff Stelling believes that Aston Villa hold a major advantage in the race for Champions League qualification, given the difficult end to the season that Tottenham have.

Spurs were not in action last weekend as their clash against Manchester City had been postponed and that allowed Villa to build up a sizeable lead over the North London side.

Unai Emery’s men eased past Bournemouth at home to put a six-point gap between them and their closest rivals for fourth but the Lilywhites are still far from out of the race, having two games in hand over the Midlands side.

Villa will have a chance to extend their lead to a whopping nine points when they face Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday before Tottenham take the field in the North London derby on Sunday.

Aston Villa vs Spurs in the race for top four

Stelling believes that despite having games in hand, Ange Postecoglou’s men will find it difficult to string wins together, given the fixtures they have coming up.

When asked about the race for fourth place, the pundit told talkSPORT – 22/04 (as relayed by TBR Football): “Yes, Spurs have got two games in hand, but Spurs have got blooming tough fixtures, I will tell you that. And Villa are flying at the moment.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Villa will have played three games more than us before we play Arsenal on Sunday is not ideal and if they win on Saturday and we get beat in the North London derby, it would be difficult for us to recover from that.
