Jenas and Lineker react to Sessegnon’s CL debut goal against Bayern

Ryan Sessegnon has had to be patient since moving to Tottenham from Fulham back in the summer.

Injury problems meant that Sessegnon had to wait for a while before starting to train with the first team and his opportunities have been fairly scarce since he regained fitness.

The youngster finally made his first start for the Lilywhites against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena yesterday evening. While nothing was riding on the game, it was a great opportunity for the teenager to show what he can do.

Jose Mourinho chose to play him on the left-hand side of a three in behind the lone striker and he made several dangerous runs in the early stages of the game.

He got his reward around the 20-minute mark when an intercepted Lo Celso pass fell kindly for him. Sessegnon took a good first touch and thrashed the volley past Manuel Nuer’s near post, to tie the game at 1-1.

Bayern eventually ended up 3-1 winners, but it was a certainly a night to remember for Sessegnon who became Tottenham’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League with his strike last evening (Opta Joe).

Former Spurs stars Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas both took to social media to react to the youngster’s well-taken finish.

Spurs Web Opinion

Sessegnon was a constant menace for the Bayern defence on the counter attacker through most of the game and I was impressed by the intelligent runs he made. However, I still believe that the 19-year-old will eventually evolve into a left-back or a left wing-back as I don’t think he has the required quality on the ball to play in an advanced position.
