Jermain Defoe reveals which Tottenham star he would love to play with

Jermain Defoe has admitted that he would love to play alongside Harry Kane, insisting the striker has mastered the art of dropping deep and creating chances.

Kane has been one of the most prolific strikers in the world for the last seven years but the striker is now being recognised for his playmaking ability thanks to his recent exploits.

The 28-year-old finished last campaign with the most goals and assists in the Premier League and he has continued to be Tottenham’s creator-in-chief, particularly after the arrival of Antonio Conte.

Kane picked up an assist for Matt Doherty’s goal in Spurs’ 5-1 win over the Magpies and also kickstarted the attack that led to Son Heung-min’s goal as he played a lovely ball over the top for Dejan Kulusevski, who took a touch and squared it to the South Korean.

Defoe admitted that he was in awe of the England captain’s vision and passing range on Sunday.

When asked who his perfect modern-day strike partner would be, the former Spurs man told Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “Harry Kane, and Harry Kane is a number nine, he’s a number nine and you get some players who come towards the end of their career and their legs have gone, Michael Owen did it at Newcastle when they come short.

“Someone like Harry has done that earlier than players before, and it’s almost like he’s mastered it.

“His range of passing, I did the game at the weekend, I watched him and he’s so clever, he walks into pockets, the ball sticks to him and his range of passing, short and long, it’s unbelievable.”

The difference between Kane and the likes of Owen and Fowler is that the Tottenham man has not adapted his game because he no longer has the legs. Instead, his vision and passing is so good that the likes of Mourinho and Conte have realised that it is beneficial for the team when the 28-year-old gets on the ball more often.
