Emile Heskey has admitted that Jermain Defoe’s form warrants a place in England’s starting line-up against Croatia.
The Tottenham striker scored the winner in England’s 2-1 friendly win against Slovenia on Saturday.
Heskey said: “Jermain has done brilliantly. Every time he comes on to the pitch he scores.
“I couldn’t complain if he was picked ahead of me against Croatia.
“He’s already scored seven times for Spurs and England this season. You can’t argue with those statistics.
“Every time he’s come on for England, he has done brilliantly and he has never complained when he hasn’t played.
“I like to play as the one man up front, so does Jermain and some of the other strikers in the squad. We are all in competition for a place in the team but it’s good competition. It keeps us all on our toes.”
