Jermaine Jenas wants Conte to use 30-year-old in new position at Spurs

Jermaine Jenas has called on Antonio Conte to try Lucas Moura as a right wing-back this season.

Before returning to action on Wednesday, Moura had not featured for Spurs since the 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the middle of August, with a calf injury keeping the Brazilian out of action.

The winger finally made his much-awaited comeback in the Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, with the former Paris Saint-Germain star coming on in the 86th minute in place of Son Heung-min for a cameo.

Moura took to Instagram after the game to express his delight at being back in action and admitted that he had missed playing competitive games over the last couple of months.

The winger has his work cut out to return to the starting eleven once Dejan Kulusevski also makes his eventual return from injury.

Jenas has suggested that Moura has the attributes to do well as a right wing-back in Conte’s system.

The former Tottenham midfielder told BT Sport (12/10/22 from 20:00 onwards): “It’ll be interesting to see where he (Moura) comes on.

“I’ve always thought at some point he might try him in the right wing-back position. He definitely has more quality than Emerson Royal. He has always worked his socks off defensively as well.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte did try Lucas at right wing-back on a couple of occasions during pre-season. However, I suspect the Italian sees the 30-year-old as an emergency right-wing-back option in case the team are chasing a game. I do not expect Moura to start in that role anytime soon.
