Jesus Perez gives update on Victor Wanyama’s injury hell

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Jesus Perez has given an injury update on midfielder Victor Wanyama.

The 27-year-old has missed the best part of the last two seasons due to various injury setbacks.

The Kenyan has hardly featured for Tottenham this year and is in the process of recovering from a knee injury. Jesus Perez has said that the former Southampton player is recovering well and has now commenced work on the field.

“He is in his rehab programme and is working on the field for a few days,” Perez told Football.London.

“He is progressing. We don’t know how long it is going to take to be back in the team but he is on the field training.”

Perez also said that the midfielder hasn’t faced any setbacks as of yet and just needs more time to recover.

He added, “There haven’t been any setbacks. He had the problem and he always just needed time to get in the right direction but he is not inside, not hiding, so we will see probably in two weeks if he is ready to train or start to train.”

A fit and firing Victor Wanyama will certainly be a great boost to the squad at the moment particularly considering that the squad is lacking options in midfield due to the likes of Dier and Dembele also being out.

Even if he returns, it remains to be seen if the Kenyan will reach the levels he displayed during his first season at the club where he formed a formidable midfield partnership with Mousa Dembele.

There have been rumours that Tottenham are prepared to move Wanyama on this month if his injury problems persist (Daily Mail).

Spurs fans will certainly be hoping that the midfielder is able to get through this spell and get back to the form he showed during his first season at the club.
