£35m Moutinho to replace Modric?

Reports in the press today claim that Andre Villas-Boas will make Joao Moutinho his main transfer target if he is appointed as Tottenham boss.

Moutinho has just suffered heartbreak with Portugal in Euro 2012 where he missed a penalty in the shoot-out against Spain. He operates mainly as a central midfielder but can also slot in as a holding midfielder or on either flank which carries a price tag said to be £32million.

If Modric departs the Lane as many expect, Moutinho would prove to be a top-class replacement for the want-away Croatian who is craving a return to Champions League football.

AVB worked with Moutinho during their time together at Porto where they enjoyed massive success. Moutinho has three years left on his deal in Portugal and Spurs will have to trigger the £35million buy-out clause if we are to stand any chance to land the 25-year-old.

If there is any chance for this to happen then a Modric exit would have to fund the deal.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. AVB needs to do his homework because if he did he would know that signing a striker is paramount, in fact we need two not another midfielder. As great a player as Moutinho is we could wait a bit for him. We have needed a striker for at least two years and I am not sure why Levy has never done anything about it unless it was all down to him not trusting Redknapp. We desperately need to lower the age of the team because thanks once again to Redknapp he only bought quick fix, past their best players. I do hope that Levy will back this manager with some funds. Don't get me wrong i would love Moutinho to replace Modric because despite Modric's passing ability he did not score enough goals for a player in that position and that is why a striker was so important at Spurs.

  2. Spurs will not pay £35m for one player – I doubt they would even pay half that for one player – we are building a new ground and have to balance the books

  3. we need two real good strikers and also need to strenten our back line but then will levy spend big money to do this let modric go if he wants to he is on about go n for the last two years now if he s not happy to be part of spurs future let him off and bring in a player like moutinho who will do the job

  4. Everyone is true about needing 2 strikers but if Modric leaves we will need to buy a centre mid like Moutiniho sigurdsson and dzagoev witch would be good signings for spurs but we defiantly need atleast 2 strikers
