Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has claimed Spurs made the right call in appointing Jose Mourinho as their head coach.
Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm back in November after Tottenham made a disastrous start to the season and were languishing in fourteenth place in the Premier League table.
Results improved considerably in the Portuguese coach’s first few weeks in charge but after suffering injuries to key players including Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Heung-min Son form has dipped.
Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat at RB Leipzig last week was their sixth straight game in all competitions without a win.
Mourinho’s negative tactics have come under scathing criticism from some pundits (ESPN) but Cole believes there are people in the media who do not like Jose Mourinho and have been unfair with their assessment of the job he has done in North London.
He backed his former manager to turn things around at the Champions League finalists but insisted he needed time to build his own team.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former England midfielder said: “Jose has gone into a difficult situation.

“In the media, in particular, there is a lot of anti-Jose, people who are very quick to jump on Jose’s back, especially for someone who has been as successful as him.
“You need to look at the job in perspective, I think it had run its course under Pochettino. I think the team wasn’t playing well, it needed a change.
“But it’s like turning a cruise ship, you can’t just turn it on a sixpence, it takes time. He needs time, he needs to bring the right players in.
“I think the relationship with Daniel Levy is important. If Levy gets him the players he wants and gives him time I think it will be a success for him.
“It’s just how every time Spurs lose a game….Spurs were losing games under Pochettino, players weren’t playing well.
“I think some of the players may have run their course at Tottenham. They are all great players but sometimes your time is up. They are in a rebuild situation.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Most Spurs fans accepted the fact that we needed to rebuild our squad under Pochettino. That hasn’t changed just because we have a different manager at the helm. Unfortunately, some Spurs fans already had their mind made up about Mourinho before he even came in and were always going to turn on him at the first signs of trouble.
