Joe Cole makes bold claim about who will finish highest out of Chelsea and Spurs

Tottenham’s poor start to the season was compounded by the 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.

While the performances and results so far certainly indicate that all is not well at the club, Spurs still find themselves three points away from third place in the table.

While Liverpool and Manchester City have started the season from where they left off last campaign, the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have also made slow starts. In fact, a win against Brighton could see the Lilywhites potentially climb to as high as third in the table, dependent on goal difference.

However, former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has confidently predicted that he expects the Blues to finish ahead of both Tottenham and Arsenal.

While the 37-year-old insisted that a top six finish would still be an acceptable result for Chelsea in Frank Lampard’s first season, he insisted that he couldn’t see them finishing outside the Champions League places.

Speaking to BT Sport (on 2/10/10 from 9.30 am), Cole said, “After 10 games now I’m looking at it… top six is acceptable.

“But I’m looking at it and thinking I can’t see Tottenham or Arsenal finishing above Chelsea. I think maybe the top four is there for them.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it is still too early in the season to make definitive predictions on where Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea will finish. I still expect the Lilywhites to recover from this slump and go on a winning run. In my opinion, despite the poor start we’ve made to the season, Spurs are still favourites to finish third.
