Joe Cole wants to see one of Tottenham Hotspur’s biggest stars in the blue of Chelsea next season, and it would anger Spurs fans.

Tottenham Hotspur run the risk of relegation this season, given their struggles in the Premier League, where they are now sat in 17th place.

Should Spurs go down, they run the risk of losing several of their first-team stars, and a couple have already been linked with moves elsewhere.

Micky van de Ven is one such player who is firmly on the radar of clubs across Europe and in the Premier League.

Joe Cole backs Micky van de Ven to swap Tottenham for Chelsea

Barcelona are reported to be keen on landing Van de Ven, but so are Real Madrid and Liverpool this summer.

The Dutchman will not come cheap, but he remains an asset for any team that lands him, given his pace and goalscoring ability.

Speaking about potential transfer targets and Van de Ven’s situation, Joe Cole suggested the defender could be a strong fit for Chelsea, telling the Dressing Room podcast: “Micky van de Ven from Tottenham. I think he is looking like he wants to leave. I think he would be a brilliant addition for Chelsea.”

Spurs concerns over Van de Ven future amid relegation fears

While Cole sounds certain about Van de Ven’s departure this season, the Dutchman has since come out to label reports stating that Tottenham players will leave as untrue.

But Simon Jordan is not buying Van de Ven’s comments on transfer rumours, instead stating that the defender will save face should Tottenham go down.

For Spurs, a club of their stature, going down will be catastrophic and will surely have major financial implications.

Tottenham now have to fight to avoid going down to the Championship with seven games left in the Premier League.
