Joe Lewis willing to sell Tottenham for £1 billion

The Daily Mirror are reporting that Joe Lewis is prepared to sell Tottenham Hotspur for a blockbuster £1 billion amount.

The Bahama-based billionaire bought the club in 2001 from Alan Sugar for a fee of around £22million.  Lewis controls ENIC International Ltd and was hoping that the club’s new stadium, naming rights and TV cash would push up the fee.

Tottenham insisted on Wednesday night there are no plans to relinquish control, but Mirror Sport understands the club are desperate for new boss Mauricio Pochettino to lead them back into the Champions League to increase the appeal to fresh investors.

Lewis’ plans hit a stumbling block with the news that the proposed new 56,250-capacity stadium has left the club highly unlikely to move into the stadium for the 2017-2018 season and face a year away from the Lane with Stadium MK the frontrunner.

To give some significance to the asking price, the Glazer’s purchase of Manchester United came to almost £800 million.
