Ahead of Leeds’ defeat in the playoff final to Southampton, Joe Rodon had sent a big hint about his desire to make a permanent move to Elland Road.

Rodon showed his class at Leeds this season, having hardly put a foot wrong at the back through the campaign but his efforts were not quite enough to help the club bounce straight back up to the top flight.

It will be the Saints who will return to the Premier League after their 1-0 win over Leeds at Wembley on Sunday, with Daniel Farke’s men set to remain in the Championship next term.

That might potentially affect the club’s chances of completing a permanent deal for Rodon, with reports over the last couple of months indicating that the Welshman is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs and is valued by Spurs at £12m-£15m (TEAMtalk).

Joe Rodon wants some stability in his career

However, just ahead of the big match against the Saints, the centre-back had spoken about the need to have some stability in his career, hinting at a potential stay with Leeds.

Rodon told The Daily Mail ahead of the playoff final: “It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season. I’ve always strived to get to the elite level and hopefully, I can get back there with Leeds, but you never know.

“I don’t want to look too far into the future, although I do love it here and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m just concentrating on giving my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”

Despite Leeds’ failure to win promotion, Rodon might be leaning towards staying at the club as he clearly feels at home at Elland Road.

It remains to be seen if the Championship club could afford a deal for the centre-back, now that they will not get the abundance of riches that come with promotion.
