Tottenham Hotspur central defender, Joe Rodon sat in with Nuno Espirito Santo for the club’s pre-match press conference this evening ahead of their Europa Conference League match against Rennes.

The Welsh defender made his first appearance of the season at the weekend, replacing an injured Eric Dier in the first half of the match against Crystal Palace.

Despite the eventual 3-0 defeat, Rodon performed well, all things considered, and will surely start the match against Rennes due to the shortage of players at centre-back.

Rodon revealed that Saturday’s defeat was a tough one to take but he and the team are excited to take on Rennes in Europe on Thursday evening.

When asked about his personal fitness, having missed the start of the season, he added that the game against Palace was a case of shaking off the cobwebs for him.

He said (Football London): “We’ve had a brilliant start to the season and Saturday was a tough one to take.”

On Rennes, he added: “Last season they had a high finish in the league and they’ve had some top-class players come through the team and it’s a match we’re excited about.

“It was difficult [to miss the European matches last season] but the best thing I could do was to keep my head down and work hard.

“All the boys were brilliant with me and it was about adapting to the club.”

And finally, on his fitness, he said: “On Saturday it was a case of getting the cobwebs off.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I hope to see Rodon get a start and put in a good performance tomorrow night. I feel like he, through no fault of his own, has slipped down the pecking order to fourth choice despite being one of our best defenders last season. He deserves opportunities.
