Johan Lange explains why Spurs are excited about Radu Dragusin’s arrival

Tottenham’s technical director Johan Lange has said that Radu Dragusin has the attributes to excel in Ange Postecoglou’s system and backed the Romanian to evolve into a top centre-back over the coming years.

Dragusin is yet to start a game for Spurs, having come on as a late substitute for all three of his Premier League appearances so far.

The 22-year-old might have to wait patiently for his chance, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven having formed an excellent partnership at the back this season and with Tottenham’s elimination from the FA Cup last month meaning that the club have just one game a week.

In his brief cameos off the bench, the former Genoa man has already showcased the sort of qualities that will make him a good fit for the Premier League, with the youngster being quite aggressive in duals and showing that he has the required physicality.

Johan Lange is excited to see Radu Dragusin at Spurs

Lange has explained that those qualities, allied with his pace, are what makes Dragusin such an exciting addition to the Lilywhites.

He told the club’s official channel about the centre-back: “We have seen Radu being very strong offensively for Genoa over a long period. He has the speed and is very strong 1 vs 1, but he has just turned 22.

“He is still a very young player with a lot of growth for the future, again, he has settled in well to the club but there is still much more to come from him in the years to come.”

Like Van de Ven, Dragusin comes across as an extremely confident and mature young man and he looks ready to slot into the backline without weakening it.

Given that the Dutchman has only recently returned from a long-term injury, I would not be surprised if Ange decides over the coming weeks to rest him for a game and play the Romanian instead.
