‘Jose masterclass’ – Some Spurs fans delighted as attacker returns from international duty

Some Spurs fans were pleased to hear that Steven Bergwijn has been sent back to North London from the Netherlands training camp after failing a fitness test ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.

Bergwijn also missed out on the Dutch squad for last month’s Nations League clashes with an injury.

The winger has not had the best of months at Spurs, having been one of the four players taken off at half-time in Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Antwerp two weeks ago.

Jose Mourinho was extremely critical of the first-half performance in that game, insisting that the players who under-performed had made his future selection decisions easier (Football.London).

Bergwijn has missed out on the matchday squads in Tottenham’s last three Premier League encounters against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom but he did come on as a second-half substitute in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over Ludogorets last Thursday.

An announcement from the Dutch national side revealed that the former PSV man was examined by the medical staff on his arrival and was not passed fit for the upcoming matches.

While some fans were delighted that the 23-year-old will have time to rehabilitee at Hotspur Way, others were concerned that his injury might be serious.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Bergwijn was passed unfit suggests that he could have potentially been playing with an injury for the last couple of weeks, having not recovered fully from the injury he picked up last month. That explains why he has looked a little lacklustre recently. Hopefully, he takes the time he needs to recover fully during the next couple of weeks and comes back fully fit.
