Jose Mourinho agrees that Liverpool boss should not have won FIFA award

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has aimed another dig in the direction of Jurgen Klopp.

The pair appeared to have an exchange of words following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Anfield when Mourinho revealed that he told his counterpart that the best side had lost the match (Guardian).

Klopp was quick to react to the suggestion following the final whistle in which he insisted that his side were fully deserving of the victory following Roberto Firmino’s late header and even claimed that he thought that Mourinho was joking.

The German was named as the men’s coach of the year at the FIFA Best Football Awards for the second time in a row having beaten beating Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa and Bayern Munich’s treble-winning manager Hans-Dieter Flick (Liverpool).

Klopp claimed in his award speech that he was surprised to net the accolade which instead should have gone to Flick (Eurosport).

Mourinho stated during his press conference on Friday that he also felt that Flick should have been the winner and even claimed with a hint of sarcasm that the Bayern boss will have to enter his side in extra tournaments after coming up short despite his treble success.

I think the only chance for Flick to win is that Bayern find two or three new competitions for him to win!” Mourinho told Football.London.

“So maybe if he wins seven titles in one season, maybe he wins the award.

“I believe he only won Champions League, Bundesliga, Pokal, the name of their [domestic] cup, European Cup, German Super Cup… he only won five, and the biggest one of all.

“Poor Flick. I think the only chance is for Bayern to find two or three more trophies to see if he can win it.”
