Jose Mourinho asked whether Spurs are title contenders if they beat Man City

Jose Mourinho talked down chances of a title challenge in his press conference today when one journalist asked whether a victory over Man City would make Spurs contenders.

Tottenham have enjoyed a successful start to the new season, achieving perhaps beyond what many expected of them at the start of the campaign.

Mourinho and Levy chose to introduce a variety of new faces in the summer in order to strengthen the squad, with the likes of Hojbjerg, Bale, Reguilon, Vinicius, Doherty, Hart and Rodon joining the North London side.

The Lilywhites are currently second in the Premier League and can reach the summit of the table for at least a day if they defeat Man City this weekend.

However, Mourinho was keen to point out that all the game against Pep Guardiola would change was three points more or three points less, apparently ruling out a draw.

He also added that the Tottenham journey under his management would not change depending on the result.

Mourinho said (Football London): “The result of the game will not change anything, only three points more or three points less. And being first, second, third or fourth fifth or sixth in the table. But in terms of journey, our ambition, our project, our process, it’s not going to change.”
