Jose Mourinho claims he is now waiting for news on Gedson Fernandes deal

Jose Mourinho claims that he is now waiting for news on the Gedson Fernandes transfer from Benfica to Tottenham, ahead of their clash against Middlesbrough tomorrow night.

Sky Sports report that the 21-year-old will join the North London club on an initial 18-month loan from the Portuguese outfit.

Fernandes was expected to arrive at the Tottenham training ground today (Monday) to finalise the move to the Premier League.

Benfica apparently also agreed a deal with West Ham United, but Fernandes preferred a move to their London rivals Spurs.

Tottenham will have the option to buy Fernandes at the end of his loan spell in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £56m, with Benfica accepting a higher loan fee for the player.

Personal terms between Fernandes and Spurs are not expected to cause any issues.

Mourinho now claims that while he is waiting for news, he is fully concentrated on the Middlesbrough game and is not interested in transfer talk.

He said (Alasdair Gold): “I am waiting for news. News can come or not. I’m more worried about Middlesbrough than the market. Even if you get a player you cannot play him in a replay. So, at this moment, I’m not interested in Gedson or any kind of player.”
