Jose Mourinho comments on Jan Vertonghen contract situation

Tottenham Hotspur central defender, Jan Vertonghen, is currently one of the longest-serving players within the senior Spurs squad, but will he be at the club next season?

The Belgian’s current contract runs out at the end of this campaign, meaning he is set to leave on a free transfer away from North London.

Now that we are in the new year, Vertonghen can talk to non-English clubs about a potential pre-contract ahead of such a free transfer.

However, in the past, Vertonghen has claimed that he wants to sign a new contract with Tottenham and remain at the club. Asked more recently and Vertonghen was certainly vague on the details, but insisted he was happy (Standard).

Jose Mourinho was asked about Vertonghen’s contract situation today, to which he said that the player, club, and agent all have to agree, but let us see what happens. This one could run and run by the sounds of it.
