Jose Mourinho compares Spurs teenager to Manchester Utd first-team player

Jose Mourinho has compared Dane Scarlett to Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford after the striker came off the bench to set up Carlos Vinicius in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Wolfsberger yesterday evening.

Scarlett has been prolific for Tottenham’s Under-18s this season, having found the back of the net 13 times in 12 appearances.

The youngster clearly seems to have impressed Mourinho, with the Tottenham boss handing him his third senior appearance of the season against the Austrian side.

The 16-year-old brought plenty of energy to the team when he came, showing great desire and awareness to pinch the ball off a Wolfsberger defender, allowing Carlos Vinicius to smash home his second of the evening and Tottenham’s fourth.

Mourinho lavished praise on the Spurs academy graduate’s talent in his post-match press conference and suggested that he has a bright future ahead of him.

In his post-match interview with BT Sport, the Spurs boss even drew comparisons between Scarlett and Rashford, admitting that he plans to bring the striker into the first-team fold next season.

When asked about the youngster, Mourinho told BT Sport (as relayed by The Daily Mirror): “He is going to be a fantastic player. He has fantastic talent. Next season he will be a first-team player.

“I am playing him from the side but he is a nine a bit like I did with Marcus Rashford.”
