Jose Mourinho gives his take on whether West Ham are now top four contenders

Jose Mourinho was asked in his press conference today whether he now sees West Ham United as contenders for the top four in the Premier League this season.

West Ham currently occupy the fourth-place position, above the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham, although the latter clubs do have games in hand.

The Hammers have won four of their last five Premier League matches, thrusting them into the Champions League argument for next season.

While Tottenham may still have their sights on achievements beyond a top-four placement this season, it would certainly be the minimum expected of this club under Mourinho.

When asked whether West Ham were contenders, the Spurs head coach simply replied that his London rivals are winning games.

Spurs face Liverpool on Thursday night and a win would not only take them above the current Premier League holders, but also above West Ham too.

However, with the top half of the table so congested, it really does seem to be anyone’s game this season.

Mourinho said (Football London): “They are winning matches.

“They have their style of play and they are winning matches, that is as simple as that. They clearly show their ambitions by trying to get a couple of players until the end of the month. They are there.”
