Tottenham Hotspur have been in the midst of an injury crisis up front for months now, with the injuries to Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and now Steven Bergwijn.
However, Spurs now find themselves short on players available at left-back too, as Ben Davies is still out injured and Danny Rose was loaned out in the January transfer window.
Japhet Tanganga is an option as left-back cover, and one that Mourinho has used in the past, but the Special One has ruled out such a move this week.
Mourinho claims that Tanganga would not provide the attacking presence that Tottenham need down the left-hand side against Leipzig as they chase the tie.
Jan Vertonghen has also been covering at left-back of late, but the Belgian is now well into his thirties and is a centre-half by trade.
Therefore, Mourinho has hinted that young Ryan Sessegnon will make his return from injury straight into the starting XI this week.
He said (Football London): “Ryan Sessegnon must help us. It’s between Ryan and Jan Vertonghen to play left-back. Tanganga in a match where we need a left-back to attack I don’t think can do it. Ryan can also give us options in attacking areas. Especially without Steven, I think it’s time for Ryan to get his opportunity.”
