Jose Mourinho jokes that Chelsea player could join Tottenham

Jose Mourinho joked on TalkSPORT yesterday that Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic could choose to leave the Blues to join Tottenham now that he has left North London.

The Special One and Kovacic have represented a number of the same clubs over the past decade but have somehow not overlapped in their careers.

Mourinho has managed Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, all clubs that Kovacic has also played for, just never under the Portuguese manager.

The former Spurs boss joked that Kovacic may keep up the trend and move to the Lilywhites just months after Mourinho was sacked by Daniel Levy and co.

Kovacic played an impressive 42 games for Chelsea last season, including 10 in the Champions League as he picked up a winner’s medal in the competition.

Mourinho parted ways with Spurs back in late April but is already lined up to take over Roma for the 2021/22 campaign and it seems he is still in high spirits.

He joked on TalkSPORT (11/06/21 – 6 am onwards) via Metro: “Kovacic, I always feel he is much better than what people think.

“I’m very upset with him because he’s played for every club I’ve been at, but never with me. He played for Madrid, but not with me. He played for Chelsea, but not with me. He played for Inter, but not with me.

“I love the guy and the guy follow my clubs. Maybe he goes to Tottenham next season!”
