Jose Mourinho offers update on fitness of Reguilon and Bale ahead of Newcastle game

Looking ahead to the Premier League clash against Newcastle this weekend, Jose Mourinho was asked by the press about the fitness of both Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.

Both players joined from Real Madrid earlier this month, with Bale coming to North London on a one-year loan and Reguilon signing on a permanent deal.

While Reguilon played regularly for Sevilla last season, as recently as the Europa League Final, Bale has played a bit-part role at best in Madrid over the past year.

Therefore, Mourinho revealed that the Welshman is still a way off being ready to make his second debut for Tottenham after leaving for Spain back in 2013.

Reguilon, on the other hand, is said to be linking up with the first-team squad for his first full training session today after conducting multiple solo sessions with Spurs staff. Despite this, Mourinho claimed that the left-back is not yet match fit.

Mourinho said (Football London): “Sergio will train with us on Friday. The information I got today from the people that stayed behind was that he had a complete session today and Friday he joins the group.

“Maybe not match fit but not injured any more and ready to train with the team. Gareth will take a little bit longer so, of course, no chance for the weekend.”
