Jose Mourinho has revealed that he was pleased with Dele Alli’s performance against Wolfsberger in the Europa League but stopped short of praising the midfielder’s stunning goal.
The 24-year-old opened the scoring in the first half when he showed brilliant awareness to find the back of the net with a bicycle kick.
He later provided assists for Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius as Tottenham secured a 4-0 win on the evening against the Austrian outfit to win the tie 8-1 on aggregate and secure their place in the last sixteen.
The England international was heavily linked with a loan switch to Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window that would have seen him re-unite with former boss Mauricio Pochettino, only for a move to fail to materialise (talkSPORT).
Mourinho admitted that he was pleased with the all-round effort from Dele and to see him playing at such a high standard giving his recent injury issues.
When asked about the goal, Mourinho told Football.London: “The goal I don’t need to speak, because everyone watched it and I believe that all around the world on all these sports TV, people are going to watch it, no need to talk about it. but for me the globality of the performance is what matters. He played very well in every aspect of the game, he played very well.
“Of course he’s not fresh, of course you can feel that his performance like in the first leg from minute 55-60 is going always to go down, which is normal due to the circumstances, injured, not training for a long time, coming from a couple of weeks. But in this moment when we are going to play every three days, 10 matches in March, to have Dele back at this level, is amazing. But I wouldn’t say Dele only. Winks, Sissoko, just to give two more examples, to have them back to this level, we need more than ever.”
