Jose Mourinho opens up on his centre-back options in absence of Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur face Ludogorets in the Europa League just days before making the trip to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this weekend.

While the Lilywhites have boasted a solid defensive record of late, they will be without Toby Alderweireld after he suffered a groin issue towards the end of the win over Man City.

Jose Mourinho revealed today that Alderweireld is expected to be out for around a month, leaving him with the likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, and Joe Rodon.

Juan Foyth was sent out on loan at the start of the season and Mourinho has today claimed that he sees Japhet Tanganga as more of a right-back than a central defender.

With Rodon unavailable for the Ludogorets clash as he is not registered in Tottenham’s Europa League squad, Mourinho revealed that Sanchez would start.

He then added that Rodon and Sanchez would both be involved in the squad to face Chelsea, presumably with one on the bench and one alongside Eric Dier in the XI.

On Rodon, Mourinho said (Football London): “To play regularly in the Championship I think it gives a player of quality a certain level of intensity and experience to allow players to be good players. We have Davinson for tomorrow night and then Davinson and Joe for Sunday.”
