Jose Mourinho opens up on whether Eric Dier could return for Brighton game

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is hopeful that Eric Dier will be fit to start the game against Brighton on Sunday, having been left out of Tottenham’s clash against Royal Antwerp.

Spurs suffered a shock defeat at the hands of the Belgian side after Mourinho rang the changes for the fixture, with Dier and Tanguy Ndombele being left back in London.

The England defender missed Tottenham’s games against West Ham and LASK with a hamstring injury but came back into the side against Burnley on Monday.

He put in a solid display alongside Toby Alderweireld at Turf Moor, as he helped the Lilywhites to cope with the constant aerial bombardment from Sean Dyche’s men.

Brighton will offer a different type of threat on Sunday with the movement of Neal Maupay upfront but Mourinho expects the 26-year-old to be ready.

When asked whether Dier would be back for the game against the Seagulls, he told Football.London: “Hope so, hope so.

“Dier had a little, no quite an important injury in the national team, couldn’t play a couple of matches for us.

“Played against Burnley, would be a risk to play tonight [Antwerp], but I expect him to be fine for the next one.”
