Jose Mourinho has taken to Instagram to praise Harry Winks after the midfielder was voted Sky Sports’ Man of the Match in Tottenham’s 3-1 win against Stoke City yesterday evening.
Winks has struggled for game time at Spurs over the past couple of weeks and has been linked with a move away from the club in January (Eurosport).
Mourinho even admitted last week that the midfielder had spoken to him about his predicament but refused to reveal the details of his conversation with the 24-year-old.
The England international came on as a second-half substitute in Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat against Leicester on Sunday and put in a decent cameo despite being unable to help his side get back into the game.
Winks was rewarded with a start in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at the bet365 Stadium and he certainly grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
The midfielder put in a typically industrious and tidy display and picked up an assist when he found Gareth Bale with a great cross which the Welshman headed home to put Spurs 1-0 up.
When the club’s official Instagram account posted a picture of Winks giving his post-match interview along with the caption ‘Man of the Match, Mourinho commented ‘Deserved’.

Spurs Web Opinion
For someone who has not played much football over the last two or three months, Winks certainly looked extremely sharp. Just like in his brief cameo against Leicester on Sunday, it was nice to see the midfielder looking to progress the ball forward rather than playing safe.
