Jose Mourinho reacts to how the FA Cup replay will affect Spurs’ winter break

Tottenham Hotspur could only earn a 1-1 draw away to Southampton today in the FA Cup, thus forcing a replay in the competition to decide who continues onto the fifth round.

Southampton and Spurs will both be named in the FA Cup fifth round draw on January 27, where they will be drawn as ball number three.

However, a replay will have to be scheduled for the two Premier League sides to fight it out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs needed a replay to beat Middlesbrough at home in the last round too.

The Premier League winter break is scheduled between February 8 and February 22 this season, but that may now be disrupted for Spurs due to this replay.

Jose Mourinho has now claimed that the match will affect Tottenham’s winter break plans slightly, but that he would ultimately rather an extra game than being knocked out.

Spurs have not won a trophy since the Carling Cup in 2008.

Jose Mourinho said (Football London): “It will affect a little bit. There is one more match we have to play. It is not a personal situation, Ralph was telling me the same, we don’t need one more match. But I think both me and him prefer to play again than to be out. No drama, let’s go.”
