Jose Mourinho reacts to Leyton Orient Carabao Cup game being called off

Tottenham Hotspur were originally due to play on Tuesday and Thursday this week in the Carabao Cup and Europa League respectively.

However, Spurs’ clash against Leyton Orient in the domestic competition was cancelled at the last minute due to COVID-19 test results from the League Two side.

Reports have claimed that as many as 17 players and staff members tested positive in the round of testing, which was paid for by Tottenham.

There has been no announcement as to whether the game will be cancelled altogether, sending Spurs through as default winners, or whether it can be rescheduled.

With the Leyton players testing positive and Spurs having a packed Premier League and Europa League schedule, finding a new date may be tough.

Jose Mourinho has now revealed that even he and his players did not know whether the game was set to go ahead until well into Tuesday, hours before kick-off.

Mourinho said (Football London): “It was hard. Even during the day, we didn’t know if it was a training session for a game or not. We managed to find a balance though and then we were told it was off.”
