With nine matches to be played over a short space of time following the Premier League restart, it is likely that Jose Mourinho will need every single player in his current Spurs squad.
Each Premier League game for the rest of the season will allow for nine players on the bench and five substitutes, meaning far more will be involved than usual.
Mourinho currently has a number of defensive options to choose from in his back line, with Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga, Juan Foyth, and Jan Vertonghen in the central positions.
However, Vertonghen is currently set to leave the Lilywhites on a free at the end of this month, as his contract was only due to last until the end of the original season (ESPN).
Despite this, Mourinho revealed in his Zoom pre-match press conference today that he remains hopeful that Jan will sign a new deal to take him until the end of the campaign, as reported by Jonathan Veal and Dan Kilpatrick.
JM says hopefully the club will agree to extend Jan Vertonghen’s contract beyond the end of the season. Discussions ongoing. #THFC #COYS
