Ben Davies was perhaps the perfect left-back for Jose Mourinho when he came into the club and switched up the formation at the back.
The Special One has largely fielded a front-four of Kane, Son, Dele, and Moura, with Serge Aurier pushing right up in attack as a winger.
This leaves the left-back to tuck in as a third centre-back while Spurs are attacking to ensure the team keep a defensive shape during the absence of the marauding right-back.
Davies is well-suited to that role as he has played both at left-back and left centre-back for large parts of his career with Swansea, Spurs, and Wales.
The job is currently being done by Jan Vertonghem, although the Belgian is on the wrong side of 30 and doesn’t quite have the mobility of a fit Ben Davies.
It was revealed today that Davies had travelled to Qatar to continue his ankle rehabilitation, and Mourinho has now added that the Welshman could be out for two or three months.
#thfc At Mourinho's presser in the hope of being distracted from the despair. Ben Davies has travelled to Aspetar in Qatar to continue his ankle rehab, while Lamela (hamstring), Lloris (elbow), Vorm (calf) & Ndombele (groin) still out.

#thfc Mourinho says Ben Davies will be out for a long time – "2 or 3 months, you lose notion of the time". Says N'Dombele is a small injury & should be back for the Xmas period.
