Jose Mourinho reveals Spurs star will not face Brentford but refuses to explain why

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to book their place in the Carabao Cup final on Tuesday night.

Jose Mourinho’s side must first overcome Championship outfit Brentford to set up a Wembley date against either Manchester City or Manchester United.

The Portuguese has revealed that Erik Lamela will not be part of his squad to take on the Bees at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but refused to elaborate why the Argentine will sit out the match.

Lamela was in the headline for all the wrong reasons late last week when he broke the government’s COVID-19 rules after spending Christmas Day celebrating with Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso along with West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini.

The actions of the Spurs trio saw the club condemn their behaviour in a statement while also insisting that they will be dealing with the matter internally (Sky Sports).

Mourinho would not get drawn into revealing any further details about Lamela’s absence.

Mourinho told the Evening Standard: “He’s not available.”

When asked to explain why the former Roma man would not feature, he added: “It’s not for me to tell you [why]. I just tell you that against Brentford he cannot play.”
