Tottenham Hotspur were without the attacking talents of Gareth Bale today as they visited Selhurst Park, earning only a draw against their hosts, Crystal Palace.
Harry Kane netted in the first half thanks to a keeper howler, but Palace fought back in the second 45 and deservedly drew level.
Spurs had a number of testing free-kicks throughout the game, some of which Gareth Bale would surely have loved to shoot from.
The Welshman went close to a set-piece screamer in the week against Antwerp when his 30-yard knuckleball was tipped onto the crossbar before Carlos Vinicius tapped home the rebound.
Unfortunately, Jose Mourinho revealed today that Bale missed out through illness, but added in his post-match press conference that the winger should be back for Wednesday.
Tottenham come up against reigning champions Liverpool in mid-week and a win would be a huge boost to the Lilywhites’ title credentials.
Mourinho said (Football London): “He was ill but of course not Covid but not one of these flus that keep you in bed for a week. He should be back for Wednesday.”
