Jose Mourinho reveals when he hopes Giovani Lo Celso will return

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he expects Giovani Lo Celso to be available for selection for Tottenham’s clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Lo Celso has not played since injuring his hamstring in Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City in the middle of December.

In the Argentine’s absence, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have established themselves as Mourinho’s first-choice pairing in the middle of the park, while both Erik Lamela and Dele Alli have shone in the number ten role.

Spurs have been boosted by the returns of Serge Aurier and Sergio Reguilon recently while Lo Celso was also pictured training with the first-team last week.

The former Real Betis man did not make the matchday squad for Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Burnley on Sunday and Mourinho confirmed that the clash against Fulham tomorrow evening also comes too soon for the 24-year-old.

However, the Spurs boss revealed that he is hopeful that the midfielder man could be back in time for Sunday’s fixture.

Speaking after Tottenham’s win over Burnley, Mourinho told BBC Sport on Sunday: “We have to go until the end and let’s see – I am especially pleased because we have no injuries.

“Even Giovani Lo Celso will be back not against Fulham but maybe for Palace.

“That’s important because we will have a crazy run of matches so we have everyone back in the squad.”

It is a big boost to have the likes of Reguilon, Aurier and Lo Celso back just as we enter the business end of the season. It will be interesting to see if Mourinho uses the Argentine as a number ten or if he prefers to play him deeper like he did last season.
