Jose Mourinho says CL win could kick start trophy run for Spurs

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has completely transformed Tottenham in the five years he has been at the helm. The club are now Champions League regulars and consistently compete at the top end of the table.

However, the Lilywhites have come under criticism for not winning any silverware and always seem to be slipping up at the final hurdle.

This is not a remark that Pochettino has taken lightly to in the past, even once suggesting that domestic cup competitions weren’t a priority (Guardian).

While many will disagree with Pochettino’s view on trophies such as the FA Cup and League Cup, he and his team now have the opportunity to silence all doubters by landing the biggest prize in European football.

One man who certainly knows what it takes to win silverware is Jose Mourinho. The former Manchester United manager has said that winning the Champions League could signal the start of a great trophy run for Tottenham.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Portuguese gaffer said: “Spurs are not winning titles and to win the first one would be fantastic and could lead to other domestic trophies because the Champions League is the biggest one of all.

“Finals are not to play, finals are to win.”
