Jose Mourinho talks on how he can change Tottenham’s current mentality

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed some incredible teams over the past five years under Mauricio Pochettino, however, one thing has been consistent, a lack of trophies.

Spurs made two finals under the Argentine, failing in a chance to win both the League Cup and the Champions League.

Not only this, but Tottenham mounted back-to-back pushes for the Premier League title in 2016 and 2017, only to be pipped to the post by Leicester and Chelsea respectively.

For a team that has grown and achieved so much, the Lilywhites still have nothing to show for their class and efforts.

Following the defeat against Sheffield United on Thursday night, current head coach Jose Mourinho questioned the mentality of his current squad.

In his pre-match press conference for the upcoming Everton match, Mourinho was asked how he can go about changing this losing mentality.

The serial winner, who has lifted silverware in every major management position in his career, replied (Football London): “Time. Only time. One of the most difficult things in football is exactly that, to change mentalities. It’s to change state of mind. It’s to change the team’s soul. It’s one of the most difficult things in football. Sometimes you have incredible luck to have a majority of players adapted to these needs and some other times you have incredible players but the psychological profile is different or was built in a different direction. So only time can do it. You have a recent example of the new champions and you know what the process to build the team is.”
