Journalist admits ‘there’s a good chance’ Bale will stay at Spurs beyond this season

Football.London’s Rob Guest believes that Gareth Bale is likely to still be a Tottenham player next season.

The Welshman has regularly been linked with a return to North London since swapping Spurs for Real Madrid seven years ago but the deal now finally looks set to go through.

It was confirmed yesterday evening that Bale had signed a one-year loan deal with Jose Mourinho’s side (Spurs official).

However, it has since emerged that the Lilywhites have the option of extending his stay at the club by another year.

This means that Bale could potentially spend two years on loan at Spurs which could take him to the end of his current contract with Real Madrid.

Guest indicated that there is a very good chance that the 31-year-old’s stay at Tottenham will be extended due to the clause Spurs have in the contract.

Responding to a fan who asked about the possibility of Bale remaining at Spurs next season, the journalist said:” I think there’s a good chance he could still be at the club beyond the end of the season as he clearly has no future at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane.

“We understand that Spurs do have an option in the agreement with Real that they can keep him for longer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how much the relationship between Bale and Real Madrid has deteriorated over the past two years, I do not expect the Welshman to return to the Spanish capital next season. However, one would assume that we will not take up the option to extend Bale’s stay unless he proves his fitness this season and shows that he can play at least 30 games.
