Journalist appears to dismiss reports of Tottenham interest in La Liga star

CalcioMercarto journalist Matteo Moretto has seemingly suggested there is no truth to reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Antoine Griezmann.

Griezmann’s stock has fallen considerably since his big-money move to Barcelona in the summer of 2019.

The French international may have hoped to get his career back on track after completing a loan move to Atletico Madrid in the summer. However, his return to his former stomping ground has not proved to be the fairytale the forward would have hoped for.

Fichajes.net claimed this week that Antonio Conte wants to bring Griezmann to Tottenham Hotspur. The report suggested that the North Londoners were leading the race for the 30-year-old and were one of the few clubs who could afford the operation.

However, Moretto has now poured cold water over the speculation linking Spurs with Griezmann. When asked if the rumour was just ‘smoke’, the journalist simply responded with ‘clear’.

I do believe Griezmann can add value to the Spurs squad given his goal record and his versatility. However, the 30-year-old’s bumper wages would likely make any deal unfeasible, unless he is ready to take a wage cut.
