Journalist asks Conte if he ever considered bringing Chiellini to Spurs

Antonio Conte batted away a question on whether he considered bringing Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini to Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte and Chiellini know each other well, with the Spurs boss having worked with the centre-back during his time in charge of Juventus.

The 38-year-old’s long and distinguished career for Juve, which saw him rack up more than 550 appearances for the Old Lady, came to end when his contract ran out this summer.

The defender ended up joining Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC and now features alongside Tottenham hero Gareth Bale.

Last year, former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp suggested that the Lilywhites should consider a move for Chiellini, given the experience and leadership that the Italian would add to their backline (The Sun).

However, Conte simply decided to praise the legendary centre-back when asked about linking up with him at Tottenham, and suggested that the Los Angeles FC star could have a career in coaching once he hangs up his boots.

When asked if he ever thought of taking Chiellini with him to Spurs, Conte told Tuttomercatoweb: “He can do everything, especially as a manager. I see him very well.

“He knows how to relate to his teammates, he has the qualities of a leader. Now he can have this experience in America and re-enter the football that belongs to him with an important role.”

I do not think Chiellini would have had it in him to make the transition to the Premier League at his age. However, like Conte, I can see the Italian going into coaching, and he certainly seems to have the raw materials to become a top manager, given his understanding of the game and his leadership qualities.
