Journalist asks Mourinho whether he is pleased with Dele Alli’s recent cameos

Jose Mourinho revealed in his press conference today that Dele Alli is working hard in training, just like the rest of the Tottenham squad.

The head coach was asked whether he was pleased with Dele’s recent cameos off the bench, but Mourinho seemed to sidestep the question and instead generalised about the squad as a whole.

Dele came off the bench late on against both Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the past week, although he wasn’t exactly given much time to shine in the Premier League outings.

However, the Spurs midfielder will likely see it as valuable progress, seeing as he had failed to even make the bench for the previous seven Premier League games (TransferMarkt).

Dele has received the majority of his minutes in the Europa League this season, scoring two and assisting another in six games throughout both qualifying and the group stages (TransferMarkt).

It remains to be seen whether Alli can earn his first Premier League start since the opening weekend of the season over the busy festive fixture schedule.

Mourinho said (Football London): “He’s working hard in training as everybody else does. We train hard every day.

“It’s just a pity that we can’t do it with the whole group because when you play so many matches, the people that play, the people that don’t play, the people that play more minutes than others, the training almost becomes individualised or in small groups so the group session as a whole is difficult to happen with so many matches.

“But the group trains hard, it’s a pleasure for us to work with them.”
