Journalist assures Spurs fans there are other targets if Bastoni and Gvardiol fail

Dean Jones has assured that Tottenham Hotspur have a long list of backup options to fall back on if their move for the likes of Alessandro Bastoni falls through.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed last week that Bastoni was Tottenham’s first-choice target for the left centre-back role this summer but the journalist added that the likes of Pau Torres, Josko Gvardiol and Clement Legnlet were also on the club’s radar.

The journalist further explained that Antonio Conte wants to sign two centre-backs this summer, with Torino’s Gleison Bremer and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi also on the Lilywhites’ list of targets.

Over the last few days, Spurs appear to have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Bastoni, with Inter Milan star’s agent stating that his client is expected to stay at the San Siro (Matteo Moretto).

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Gvardiol is also expected to stay put at RB Leipzig for at least one more season (Ryan Taylor).

Jones has said that Fabio Paratici and co will not be too worried over these developments as Spurs have several alternatives to fall back on.

When asked about Bastoni and Gvardiol no longer being options for Tottenham, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “They’ve got a long list of names that they’re ready to fall back on.

“Those were just seen as the two best fits, and if it doesn’t work for Tottenham, it’s not the end of the world because they are making progress with other players at the same time.”

While Paratici and Conte would have complied a long list of targets, the Spurs head coach would have also been hoping to snap up his first-choice target rather than settle for names lower down the list.

With Bastoni and Gvardiol seemingly no longer viable targets, it does appear like Pau Torres and Sven Botman are the left centre-backs that the North London club are likely to move for.
